Heart + Soul is thrilled to present Camp Harmony—a summer music camp designed for children ages 4-9. We believe in building the foundation of music appreciation and education early on so kids can benefit from the transformational power of music.

ABOUT CAMP HARMONY
CLASS STRUCTURE
At Camp Harmony, we aim to answer three primary questions for your child.
Why does music matter?
What makes music?
How do we make music?
We will use a variety of methods to answer these questions but one thing that sets us apart as a camp is our passion for getting children to engage by experiencing live music. There’s just something about listening to music while its being made right before our eyes that is moving and exciting.
But this can be even more powerful for young ears because over time it can help transform the passive listener to an active listener. That’s when the magic kicks in. Suddenly your child is listening more adeptly and inquisitively and this leads to a level of detail that improves the way they take in the world. And maybe even the way they take on the world—whether they’re the next virtuoso or not.
We’ll employ two instructional blocks that are split by snack time. These two blocks will get kicked off by a small performance or a short video where we will break down some basic elements of music and how we achieve more than just sounds with instruments.
CLASS SIZES
Class size will be limited to 10 campers per group. Each group will have be led by one adult counselor and one younger helper to ensure all needs are met throughout the day.
SNACK
We’ll offer on snack each day so be sure to communicate any dietary restrictions or preferences during the registration process.
OUTDOOR PLAY
Each day of camp will begin and end with outdoor play to give the kids an appropriate amount of time to transition to and from the classroom space. We want to make sure the kids explore their full range of motion when it comes to play and expend as much energy as possible! Beginning and ending the day on the playgrounds will also make pickup and drop off easy and seamless.

What to expect
the Counselors
Kathie Cavanaugh, Director
Kathie is a web designer and stay-at-home-mom, in addition to being a board member and musician for the Triad Area Medical Orchestra.
She started playing the viola at the age of 10 and continued throughout college, participating in a variety of symphonies and quartets. Following college she stepped away from orchestra settings but never stopped picking up her instrument.
Music has always been a transformational and influential force in her life. And now she hopes to share the gift of music with others.
Rae Yao Lee
Born and raised in Winston-Salem, Rae Yao is a school counselor in Santa Barbara, California, and has played the violin and viola for many years. She currently lends her talents to several orchestras in the Santa Barbara area including the San Luis Obispo Grand Opera, San Luis Obispo Symphony, Lompoc Pops, and the Santa Maria Philharmonic.
Sidney Ginn
Sidney’s background is in vocal education. She is currently a music teacher at Brunson Elementary and has nurtured a love for music for a lifetime.
